Project: Melford DSR

Client: Department of Transportation and Public Works, Sydney, NS

Mitchelmore Engineering Company (Meco) was contracted by the Department of Transportation and Public Works (TPW), Government of Nova Scotia, to perform a Dam Safety Reviews (DSR) at the Melford Water Utility dam.

The melford dam is a homogeneous earthfill dam with inter drainage. It has a low level discharge intake and an overflow spillway for flood control. The DSR was conducted in accordance with the Canadian Dam Association (CDA) Dam Safety Guidelines, 1999.

TPW’s DSR included one (1) embankment dam and one (1) concrete spillway structure for review.

Meco’s Services include:

  • Classification of the dam and spillway in accordance with the CDA guidelines
  • A site inspection for physical deficiencies
  • Shallow & Deep Foundations
  • A review of Operations, Maintenance and Surveillance
  • A review of Compliance with Previous Reports
  • Documentation and Preparation of a Project DSR Report
