The Beaver Brook Antimony Mine (BBAM) contracted Meco to design a grade increase of 2.5 metres to the existing Tailings Management Facility (TMF) at the operating antimony mine in Newfoundland. Included with the design package was a hydrological study and review of tailing output rates to determine the appropriate height for the new crest. The design package included a slope stability review, seepage models, seismic safety, filter design, and technical specifications development. Using client provided topographic information the new toe of slope was determined and used to calculate material quantities.
Meco provided full time construction supervision / management and acted as the mediator between the contractor and the owner. Construction management included review of quantities, QA/QC testing (compaction testing, moisture contents, etc.), providing weekly update reports to the owner and contractor, and approval of progress payments.
