Project: Long Lake DSR

Client: Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources, Long Lake, Spryfield, NS

Mitchelmore Engineering Company (Meco) was contracted by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Government of Nova Scotia, to perform a Dam Safety Review (DSR) and flod innundation studie at Long Lake dam.

The Long Lake dam is a homogeneous earthfill dam originally constructed in the mid 19th century. It has a low level sluice and overflow spillway for flood control.

Meco’s Services include:

  • Classification of the dam and spillway in accordance with CDA Guidelines
  • Site inspection for physical deficiencies
  • Review and analysis of design and construction
  • Hydrotechnical analysis and development of inflow design flood (IDF)
  • Flood modeling using FLDWAV software
  • Innudation mapping
  • Slope stability assessment
  • Review of compliance with previous reports
  • Preparation of a Dam Safety Review Report
