Project: Geotechnical Investigation and Construction Services

Client: Bear River Gas Station, Bear River First Nation Reserve, NS

Mitchelmore Engineering Company (Meco) Ltd. was contracted by Neil and Gunter to assess subsurface soils and to provide recommendations for earthworks and foundation design for a gas station and convienence store, located in the Bear River First Nation Reserve. Recomendations were made for slab on grade and spread footing foundations.

The geotechnical investigation consited of three boreholes, and two testpits to determine the physical and mechanical properties of the soil.

Meco’s Services include:

  • Layout and design of the geotechnical investigation
  • Supervision of drilling, in-situ testing and sampling of soils
  • Recovery of soil samples and laboratory analysis for geotechnical design properties
  • Preparation of an interpretive geotechnical report for the site including foundation, parking and surface water control recommendations

Site services included:

  • Approval of foundation material
  • Compaction testing of fill materials
  • Concrete testing for strength, air and slump
